Question: Where/how can I watch Jeremy Piven's Journey of a Lifetime?

Where/how can I watch Jeremy Piven's Journey of a Lifetime?

It premiered on April 1, 2006. Discovery's website has a schedule saying it's playing on August 29th and 30th on Discovery HD, but I don't have that channel. I can't find anywhere that would have it on DVD. I can't even find a torrent for it (though I'd be up for paying for it if there's a legal way to do it). I can't find any reference of it on the regular Discovery or Travel Channel websites (both of which have been advertising the show).

Any ideas of how I can see this show?

Are you sure you don't have that channel? If you have cable, or at least Time Warner, you can get Discovery in HD. You might want to invest in an HD tuner card for your PC and watch cable TV from there. FYI it wasn't paticularly good. I couldn't tell if Jeremy Piven was aware he was the typical LA-type, including Penguin shirts, flip flops and cargo shorts. There were a lot of "Dude, totally spiritual" moments, along with 5-star hotels and luxurious cruises down rivers. A lot of schizophrenia regarding whether he was Jewish (if Judaism came up he was) or whether he was Hindu/Buddhist (which if it came up he was). Not trying to dissuade you, it was entertaining in a Jeremy Piven-is-cool kind of way but I didn't find it paticularly "spiritual."

I'm sure the DVD will come out soon, perhaps you can contact the Discovery Channel for information?

I know it was recently in the list of shows on Comcast OnDemand. Do you have any friends with OnDemand?

***sort of a spoiler alert***

Finally, I know you didn't ask, but: I love jeremy piven, I love discovery shows, I love shows about india . . . I found Journey of Lifetime to be unwatchable. I recorded it because I wasn't home when it was on and I looked forward to watching it. I couldn't even get through 20 mins. He was equal parts holier-than-though, know-it-all and stereotypical obnoxious american tourist. There was one touching part where he went to an orphanage, but that didn't make up for the rest of it.

Update: I've got regular old cable -- no digital, no satellite. I don't live in a Comcast area (Mediacom, yuck).

I like Jeremy Piven, and I'm visiting India soon so I figured it'd be somewhat interesting. Hopefully I'll be able to have my own opinion on it!

Thanks.

I'm glad I am not alone in my opinion of the show. You could make a drinking game with the amount of times he said "nameste" to passersby.

Discovery has some better shows featuring India, might be worth searching for them, too.

Not to deride this into a discussion of the show, but you guys took it way too seriously and/or way too sober when you were watching it. I mean Jeremy Piven trying to pick up that Jewish shama? And then trying to pick up that Bollywood star? Seriously I thought it was hilarious the incredible cognitive dissonance he showed. And yes after the first half we devised a drinking based on whether he said "namaste" or two drinks if he hit on someone inappropriately.

On "The Showbiz Show", David Spade showed Mr. Piven wearing a shirt that said "Eat Carbs". In India. Where people are starving. Maybe I should attend mass wearing my Jesus Helps Me Trick People t-shirt....OH WAIT. I don't go to church. Never mind! Carry on, Jeremy!

Fourthed. The'd been advertising it a lot, it looked really cool, I set the DVR to record it and then... couldn't get more than about half an hour in.

Another voice joining those who found it almost unwatchable. It was unbelievably self-indulgent. I still like Piven as an actor but he came off as a totally out of touch, narcissistic, jackass in his "journey of a lifetime".

I'm glad to hear other people say it. I watch every show on India I can find, but this one was simply awful. I sat through it for the high-def India goodness, but it was really bad.
