please recommend a place to pick some fruit or berries near to nyc.

I want to take my sister fruit picking. We live in new york, so preferrably no more than 3 hours away.
Bonus points if you've been recently and can vouch for the fruit.
More bonus points if its near new paltz so i can go tubing.
Looking for berries or peaches.

Check with the CSA farms in your area. I would call them to see if they allow the public to come pick. Many CSA (community supported agriculture) farms do and then charge for the fruit you pick. If the farms on the first link do not, then check the farms in the New York section of this list.

I can not vouch for any of the New York farms as I am only familiar with the one near me in Virginia. We are members and go weekly. Last week, we were able to pick 10 pints of blackberries for jam. This week, I hope to get just as much.

Have a great day berry picking!

PickYourOwn.org is a good resource. Here's their New York page.

Any of the apple farms in the Hudson Valley are under 2 or 2.5 hours. Same with Ulster. You can drive to New Paltz and go to the Tourist Information Center and they will have maps to any of the local farms that allow picking. It's too late for strawberries or I'd send you to Secor Farms, but I think it's coming up on raspberries, right? I would see if you can get in touch with the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce or do a google search on Ulster County berry farms. All of these areas are easily accessible from the New York State Thruway or the Taconic.
