Help me find a good sleep disorder clinic around SF (East Bay, hopefully).

I think I have sleep apnea, and I'd like to know for sure, and get treatment. I'm assuming that I can really only confirm this at a sleep disorder clinic. Does anybody have recommendations for such clinics in the San Francisco area? If possible, I'd like East Bay (I'm in Pleasanton).

Yeah, I googled. Lot of noise in the results, and I'd especially like to hear recommendations from people who've used the various clinics.

My understanding was that the Stanford Sleep Disorders clinic was one of the best in the world.

To echo bitdamaged, William Dement is generally considered one of the experts on sleep disorders and is the founder of the Stanford Sleep Disorders clinic. If you follow bitdamaged's link, you'll notice that there's also a Fremont location for your convenience.

Thirded, hit up the Sleep Clinic at Stanford. One of the highlights of the sleep class is when they bring in the narcoleptic puppies, sad and adorable all rolled into one.

Thanks, folks. Looks like that's where I'll start. As a pile on, I recently saw a brief blurb in a newspaper about a sleep disorder support group called AWAKE that held meetings in Fremont. Again, googling has turned up so much noise that I'm having trouble finding contact/scheduling data. Anybody have info on AWAKE in the East Bay?

Fremont AWAKE

Contact name: Stephanie Gersten
Phone number: 510-402-4515

Found here after googling for a bit (AWAKE + support-group) and discovering AWAKE is sponsored by The American Sleep Apnea Association. Good luck! I know how hard it is to function without sleep....

You're going to look at me strange for this one — but some sleep centers rent a room or a floor in a hotel. If you do this, examine your room's mattress and chairs for signs of bedbugs. I had a sleep study done in early 2005, and I'm fairly sure I acquired a bedbug infestation from the (rather nice) hotel the sleep study was conducted in. I'll never know for sure, but it's one of the more likely culprits. The Wikipedia article on bedbugs should assist you in determining what to look for.

Okay, WCityMike, you're freakin' me out here.

I'd rather freak you out now and have you spot them and avoid a subsequent infestation than not freak you out and have you have to deal with one later, y'know?
