How did people in the USSR react to the Moscow coup?

[FormerUSSRSurveyFilter]I'm writing an article about the 15th anniversary of the failed Moscow Coup (August 9) and the subsequent breakup of the USSR. If you lived in the USSR at that time, I'd appreciate it if you could give me some thoughts about these questions.

1. What is your age, gender, nationality (of the republic you were living in during the summer of 1991) and ethnicity.

2. What were you and other people thinking, feeling, and discussing on the day of the Moscow Coup? Did you and/or your family watch the events on television? If not, how did you find out about it?

3. How, if at all, did your day-to-day normal life change? Did you (or your family) continue going to work or other daily activities?

4. Immediately after the Moscow Coup, were you and other people nervous about the future or excited about the future?

5. What were the hopes and aspirations of citizens in general and for you personally following the breakup of the USSR (1991-1993)?

6. Are people in general and you yourself disappointed or optimistic at the progress since then?

7. What, if anything, do you miss from the Soviet times?

8. How old were you in 1991? Do you think that your age affected your opinion of the events?

9. Did your republic have a scheduled referendum at the time? If so, did that impact your impression of the Moscow Coup?

Thank you! If you don't feel comfortable posting your answers here, please email me katy (at) katypearce(dot)net.
