Would there happen to be any parks in New York (driving distance from NYC) that has a picnic /bbq area, fishing and/or crabbing, tennis courts, and hmm, a beach? TIA!

I would recommend Kingsland Point county park in Sleepy Hollow, just north of Tarrytown in Westchester. There is picnic/bbq, fishing, baseball fields, and access to kayaking on the Hudson.

Pretty much anywhere down the Jersey Shore is nice and fits your specs, Point Pleasant, Seaside, Spring Lake, Island Beach State Park, have your pick. Just don't be a benny, please.

I second the Jersey shore. Plus, you don't have to drive. Take the train.

Not New York, but Stamford CT. An hour by Metro North train from Grand Central. Cove Beach is a short cab or bus ride from the Stamford station. They have all those things (maybe not crabbing) but I don't know if you have to be a Stamford resident to use the tennis courts.

I think Sandy Hook has everything but the tennis. Just be aware that one of the beaches there, Gunnison, is clothing optional. On weekends arrive early, it closes after the parking lots fill.

Don't discount da Bronx: Try Pelham Bay Park, the city's largest. It's really quite something! (Gallery here)
