Looking for ideas for the best romantic hotel/inn in Maine, along the coast on any island offshore? Any ideas/suggestions?

The White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport calls itself “An achingly romantic destination…” I know folks who have stayed there and they definitely raved about it. I've also heard good things about the York Harbor Inn. Both are on the southern Maine coast.

The Monhegan Island Inn, on the island of Monhegan, is remote and I've heard from numerous people that it's incredibly romantic.

Point of information-- York County doesn't feel very much like Maine. As in, you might as well be in Rockport, MA. And there's nothing wrong with that. The southern coast is beautiful and so is Rockland. But if you're asking specifically for Maine, you should keep that in mind.

And you need to look at The Inn on Peaks Island, located (naturally) on Portland's Peaks Island. Maine island life, very regular ferry service and access to Downtown Portland in the event that you want to do something more urban.

I second Monhegan Island. I've spent summers in Maine for years now and this is by far one of my favorite destinations.

I second the White Barn Inn, though it is expensive. Try to see if you can get a package deal for the restaurant, which is also exquisite.
