Cool free or open source apps for Java mobiles?

I've finally caught up with the rising tide of technology, and bought myself a Java-enabled cellphone. Being both a fan of open source, and a cheapskate, I'm wondering if there is much active development of open source software for these devices? Does anyone know of a directory of cool free or open source apps for Java mobiles?

Most of what's out there is crap. Freshmeat lists a few interesting projects, but I haven't spent much time looking into them.
