Broadband in Antigua, Guatemala? Any expertise on getting a reliable fast or broadband connection in Antigua, Guatemala would be appreciated. A friend needs to telecommute for several months. I have a gmail account if you want to reply directly. Checking it only every other day or so. thanks.

I haven't been in Antigua since 2002, but there were plenty of broadband cafes there at the time; presuming things keep improving, s/he should have no problem. If you want to know who to call to get it arranged, that I don't know.

I think these companies offer broadband in Guatemala:
- Telgua (the service is called Turbonett).
- Telefónica
- Terra
- Newcom
- Jaba Networks

There are more providers listed here (in Spanish).

When I was there last summer, the Funky Monkey was the best Internet cafe in Antigua by far. They have a wireless network and also have computers to rent. Plus, it's a fun place to hang out.
