Where are all the militant Islamist websites?

I'm writing for a fairly major Middle Eastern newspaper, and it's part of my job to get reactions and quotes from as many sources as possible. When mission statements, letters, reactions, videos, etc., from militants come out and get reported in the media, they're usually attributed to otherwise anonymous "Islamist websites." But where are they?

I know that Hizbullah, Islamic Jihad, Hamas, Fateh, and other smaller and lesser-known groups all have websites or message boards, but I haven't had any luck tracking them down.

As an auxillary question, would someone with an interest in following this sort of thing for academic interest expect to get visited by intelligence services for his or her internet usage?

who knows if you'll get visited, but I would guess the odds are decent you will be put on a list of some sort.

You might want to check with the Site Institute, from what I understand, the group has provided invaluable information to government agencies and private organizations against Islamic extremists. The institute is run by a woman named Rita Katz (I can only assume it is a pseudonym), and she tracks jihadis and other extremists on the web. There is an interesting article about her in the New Yorker a few weeks back.
