Travel Medicine in NYC

Help me find a travel medicine clinic in Manhattan.

I will soon be traveling abroad to an area for which vaccinations and prescriptions are necessary. I have found a few travel medicine services in the NYC area via Google but am having trouble determining how legitimate/established they are and how helpful they can be with related medical questions. Looking for some personal recommendations or suggestions to help me wade through my Google results... Thanks in advance.

Do you not have a regular doctor you can go to for this?

The CDC actually has lots of good info on destination-specific travel health.

Thanks, occhiblu. Need something more than a regular doctor.

Some clinics have special travel groups with physicians who prepare patients for foreign travel (and who also follow up with health advisories on return from a foreign country) in addition to administering vaccines, etc. TravelMD.com is the best example I can find. I'm hoping a helpful MeFite out there can speak to an experience at this office or another like it.

I actually meant more that your doctor might have recommendations for where to go for what you need.

I second ochiblu; you go to your doctor and he or she, knowing that they're in over their head, recommends someone. At least, this is what happened to me. I wish I had a name / number for you, but I got nothing. But your doc can help you, esp if he or she is affilated with a hospital, as mine was.

Following up -- I went with the TravelMD.com physician, Dr. Ronald Primas, and found the consultation to be exactly what I was looking for. About 45 minutes of discussion regarding health precautions, disease risks, and safety steps tailored to my specific destination -followed by the discussion and administration of proper shots and prescription issuances. Hopefully this answer helps other travelers in the NYC area needing such services.
