Where should we vacation, next week?

Where should we vacation on the cheap within a day's drive of NYC? Specific requirements on the

Here's what'd be ideal: Cabin on or near water (lake or ocean, doesn't matter so much) with hiking and canoeing options. Not too many people around. Nearby minor-league ballpark a plus.

We'd be doing this next week. We've found (too) many options, but were hoping for something ... less expensive. There's only 2 of us, most cabins seem priced for the whole family. Tiny is fine. Even a yurt would be fine. Our camping gear, however, is inaccessible.

Burlingame State park in Rhode Island - 3 hour drive from NYC.

And since EVERYTHING is nearby in RI, catching a Pawsox game shouldn't be a problem: http://www.pawsox.com/

I assume you've checked out Lake George, which should be about 4 hours from NYC. Sorry, I don't have any specific cabins to recommend there as I haven't been there in years, but the website has a big list of places.

I haven't checked out much yet. I should note I'm new to the area (lived in Boston 5 years ago, but just moved back east from Ohio) so no suggestion is too obvious.

Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos (PA) is beautiful. I'm not sure about pricing, but it's only a 3 hour drive from the city and not a terribly popular place for people to "summer" if your looking for someplace kind of quiet. There's a bunch of neat little towns scattered around the lake, and there are plenty of hiking trips to take in the region as well.

What do you mean by "a day's drive"? If you're willing to literally drive for a whole day, you can get way into upstate New York or maybe Vermont, and find something cheap there. If you wanted a day trip, the other suggestions are probably better. Close to the metropolitan area, though, it'll cost money.
