Hitchhiking in British Columbia

Okay so I only have about 45 minutes before I go, but I hope some of you guys are quick to respond. Here's the thing: We are in Victoria and looking to go to Juan de Fuca provincial park on Vancouver Island so we're looking for some tips and advice on how to get there and general advice on hitchhiking. Where to go, what to do, what NOT to do, etc.
Thanks

Take local transit to Sooke.

You need to bring your own drinking water. Bring three times what you think you'll need.

Local transit to Sooke, as noted. Hitching is good on that road. Get off at China Beach and hike to Mystic Beach (2 km) (skip China Beach) -- you may never leave that heavenly spot with the waterfall onto the sand. Unofficially, you can camp in the salal behind the beach. Good grub at Jordan River cafe. Sombrio beach also very nice. Very cool if the fog rolls in -- cool, and cool, if you know what Imean. Don't eat the mussels. Have a great time.

Seconding the mussels warning and confirming that rumple's advice is pretty well on the money, although I'm a bit more partial to China Beach.

Actually, if you got transit even as far as the end of Colwood Crawl, get off at the Tim Horton's or Royal Roads, hitching from there would be pretty good too. No one will pick you up between Victoria and Colwood -- too many beehive do's with their eyes firmly on Costco. Go to Sooke Potholes if you get a chance.

Getting off where it says 52-59-61 on this map would be adequate, or ride all the way to Sooke if your bus goes there.
