question about cdl

if i were to get a cdl would my driving record be cleared and start again under the new license?

No. Your existing license would get a commercial endorsement, and your driving record would remain intact.

In Oregon, at least, you need to have a regular drivers license before you can get a CDL.
You also need to fill out a detailed job application listing all violations, as well as notifying the DMV within 30 days of conviction.

I believe (but am not certain) that the last two are Federal requirements, so would be the same from state to state.

In short, no.
