Is it really just called an "adapter"?

What would you call this thing? The only names I can find for it are "adapter" and "insert," but I could have sworn it had a different name (i.e., "spacer" or something) when I used to use it to play 45s (when I was a wee lad, of course).

"Spindle adapter" or "45 spindle".

"45 RPM inserts," "spindle adapters," or "spindle inserts." It's apparently your choice.

A spider, or a record spider. It's what _I_ would call it -- I'm not saying anyone would know what I was talking about.

I always called it an adapter. While Googling to see if there might be other names I came across this interesting bit about the birth of the 45 rpm record.
