Translating Maktens Vägar

SvenskFilter: English translation of Bertil Mårtensson's "Maktens Vägar" (Paths of Power?) appears not to exist...

.. it was one of the first books that brought me into the world of fantasy, and even though I can still read it fine, friends and colleagues who read similar books to me can not. I have "fansubbed" Swedish things before, like Movies, but a book is a project of a larger scale. I would have assumed it would have been translated by now, if they were going to do it, using professional translators, but I guess it is still illegal to translate it yourself (with no intention to make money on it).

Anyone dabbled in this sort of area before?

It's on this list as a Swedish title, so yeah, it looks like it hasn't been translated. (Judging by the Wikipedia entry, it's a trilogy, not a solo novel, so that makes the project even more difficult.) I feel your pain—I've been forlornly wishing for a translation of Abdelrahman Munif’s three-volume Ard al-Sawad—but all I can suggest is that you look for a publisher who specializes in similar books and try to sell them on the idea of a translation. (If you know someone who could do it, that might help.)
