What dive computer should I buy?

I need to purchase a new dive computer for recreational scuba. Looking for recommendations.

My old dive computer has passed away, and I need one for recreational diving, primarily in the Pacific Northwest and some in the tropics. Cost-effectiveness is a key consideration. I don't do many deep dives and don't do nitrox yet, so a bare-bones type unit would work. I need it to have all the standard features, and appreciate recommendations for bells and whistles.

Personally, I don't have a preference about whether the computer attach through a hose or be a wrist model, but your suggestions are welcome.

I love love love my suunto. The one I've linked is probably more than you need (nitrox + PC link), but definitely check out other suuntos. Never had a single problem with it other than needing to replace the battery.

I second the Suunto. I have a Suunto Cobra and love it.

Try checking out this scubadiving.com website for reviews, etc. Helpful format.

Lonely Planet's scuba thorntree can also be helpful.

Another vote for the Suunto. I use a Vyper and it's great!
