Coverting video files for iDVD

How do I make a DVD from my iTunes video downloads?

I have a bunch of .mv4 video files that I have downloaded from iTunes. I would like to use iDVD to create a collection of these files for viewing. But alas, iDVD won't work with .mv4 files. How can I convert these files to a format that will work with iDVD? Which format would be best to convert to?

m4v files are DRM protected, so your first step would be to remove that protection -- which is, or course, illegal (for now). I am unaware of any mac tools to remove the DRM protection from m4v files.

Well it would take a while, but you could use a desktop motion capture application like snapz from ambrosia software while you played the movies in iTunes, then save those captures as a format that you can burn to DVD.

Not the best solution, but you could do it.

Are m4v files always DRM'd? They can be, but they don't have to be, surely?

The m4v files from the iTunes store are DRM'd. Ones you make on your own are not. Similar to the AAC files apple uses on the itunes store.

iDVD can bring in anything that Quicktime handles. If you add the DivX codec (for example), you can bring in divx files.

The only way (right now) to get these into a format that's useable is to use the snapz pro method.
