Excel- conditional data copy

Excel use question: what's the term (and usage, if you don't mind) for the concept of "copy only the rows with (special indicator here) from that worksheet"?

I have an Excel spreadsheet with some basic data storage (only 7 columns) of employee records. It contains many more past than current staff. Is there a sensible way to keep the master data intact, but to flag a "currently employed" column, and have another worksheet look at the master data, and duplicate over only the rows that contain the flagged column?

What function would do that?

Use the AutoFilter function, filter to show only current employees and then copy-and-paste the displayed records.

Data/Filter/Advanced Filter... should also let you do something like this.

Response by poster: Advanced Filter: Show Non-blanks on the "currently employed" column fits the need perfectly. Thanks!

I think there is a way to do this using Vlookup. The last time I used it, I was comparing two lists and wanted to copy over only the data from one list pertaining to the companies that matched names on the other list. It sounds like you might be trying to do something similar? I'm not sure.
