Can I load a Japanese/English dictionary onto my ipod?

I am looking for a Japanese/English dictionary I can load onto my ipod. I am moving to Japan soon, and at the present time I can't afford one of the electronic dictionaries, so I was wondering if I might make use of my nano for this purpose.

I have no idea how good these are.

iParrot Dictionary, designed for iPod, is a taking-with bilingual dictionary. It comes stocked with over 3000 words, classified as over 10 categories and altogether 40 subcategories. Its categories include: Appellation, Dining, Transportation, and Action, just to name a few. Audio files created by native speakers with proper pronunciation for all included words, are particularly helpful for during traveling. You'll never be caught with your nose in a dictionary again. Virtual fluency available in Chinese, English, Japanese and German.

There's also iLingo's AsiaPack, but it's more than just Japanese, and apparently only 400 words...

junesix has a better answer than I do.

Most Japanese phones have Japanese-English dictionaries. My girlfriend's phone can actually identify kanji with the camera and spit out the English for it, though it's not entirely accurate. Just make sure to get a phone that has English menus. A lot of Vodafones do, and maybe 1/3rd of the AU and Docomo phones do.

I couldn't afford an electronic dictionary either, so I use PADict for Palm. I really like it, specially the kanji input. If you don't mind carrying an extra gadget, I'm sure you could find a cheap Palm on ebay.

I'll second the suggestion of using iLingo
if you visit their page you can download a free japanese pack as a 'demo' containing 65 phrases, or use this direct link. This might be enough to get you started.
