1Password and Chrome Aren't Playing Well Together

I have been a happy 1Password user for many years, including on Chrome for Windows. But suddenly, my preferred technique just crashes. Why?
I've been a 1Password user since before they moved to the cloud, at least, and for the most part things have been very smooth. I usually use Chrome autofill to enter passwords, that is, press the down-arrow on the keyboard or whatever the mouse equivalent is to select the password entry. It worked just fine until a week and a half ago or thereabouts.
All of a sudden Chrome just crashes when I hit enter on a password, or click the mouse to select one. It crashes to desktop without any warning, no dialog, no nothing. No useful info in the console log from what I can tell.
I have done the usual things, restarted, reinstalled the extension, and so on.
It seems to happen across all my Windows machines now, though since they are all syncing browser data I guess I'm not surprised.
I'd really prefer not to have to erase any more info than I absolutely need to, but this is driving me nuts.
I've seen the 1Password support pages but they have been unhelpful.

I hadn't, but thanks for pointing it out. I'm not sure it relates to my issue, but the timing is similar.

I recently had to delete the extension from my chrome and reinstall a new version. I got a warning a few months ago that the old 1Password would no longer work with chrome and ignored it; I got a more unavoidable message maybe a week or two ago. The new extension is both more convenient in that I need to log into it less frequently and also seems less secure that way. I see that you’ve reinstalled, but maybe try that again? The stops-working deadline was so recent that it seems like it may be a factor.
I also just got one of the “1Password won’t work fully because chrome needs updating” alerts.
I am on a Mac, not Windows.
