How to undo more

How can I change the number of "undos" I can do in MS Word X for Mac?

I can't find it in preferences, and I hate how few "undos" I can do... or undo...?

I don't know the answer, but your question did cause me to find this fascinating blog post about Word's undo system and the challenges of maintaining the Win & Mac branches of Word. So, thanks for that!

I found two separate threads on Google Groups where the same person from the Word MVPS site says that it's all based on memory... but I'm not buying it. Their answers usually work though, so if all else fails, I'd recommend emailing them.

Best answer: You can undo up until the last save.

The only exception to this is if you copy/paste a large amount amount of data and word will pop up a 'continue without undo' warning, if you get this a lot then consider fitting more memory or closing any other programs open in the dock.

Response by poster: Lanark, thank you. My problem is that I save reflexively, so, I can't go back more than a few undos. I get it now. It seems scary, but I'm going to try not to save so frequently. The funny thing is, in Final Draft, a scriptwriting software, you can set the number of undos, no matter when you last saved it. At least, I think that's true. I never thought about it till now. Hm. Anyway, thanks all three of youse.
