OCFilter: ok, on the OC Sandy is going to be investigated for criminal wrongdoing. What did he do?

Something about the hospital. Bribing the board and providing them with hookers so they'd accept his proposal? Have you read any of the episode capsules or discussions at televisionwithoutpity? They might explain it all better.

I've got to say, the Sandy-Matt-Hospital stuff is about as dull as this season has gotten (and that's saying a lot).

From Wikipeida: Sandy being told by Dr. Roberts that he would be under investigation over his dealings with Henry Griffin.

PS: Don't watch the show. I just have good google fu.

"(Matt) Ramsay attempts to blackmail Griffin with evidence of his corruption, which backfires. Sandy intervenes to protect Matt, who leaves for Chicago to start his own business with a severence check given by Sandy."

"Sandy is chosen as Man of the Year, but this sparks the DA to dig deeper into his involvement with the hospital problems."

I'd better get a checkmark for this.

Does the hospital need to be public to make bribing the board illegal?

You could probably get some conspiracy charges out of it somewhere.

I understand the plot points I just don't understand what Sandy actually DID.

I was hoping to get an answer without having to plow through too many episode recaps. He bribed the board?

Woah, Alvy, that second sentence is still a spoiler until tomorrow. Not that I didn't know, of course.

Sandy was conflicted about the hookers and steak section of the schmoozing evening, so that was presumably unethical, but I don't think it was directly corrupt. I think it's more to do with Griffin's corruption and Sandy's guilt-by-association. Griffin's obviously not a nice guy (he hired thugs to beat up Matt, for instance), and probably on the take in some way, which they haven't made explicit.

Actually I think there might be a bit of a plot hole here. Which they're successfully covering up because no one actually cares about the Sandy plotline this season.

I imagine the charges will be stated explicitly at some point before the season is over. Or maybe featherboa's right and no one cares.

The only thing that occurs to me as crossing the line between unethical and illegal is Matt's beatdown. Sandy knew Griffin was behind it, and instead of reporting Griffin, he more-or-less accepted an enormous bribe (the multi-million dollar development surrounding the hospital) and paid Matt off to keep it quiet. The only problem with that: Matt's foolhardy attempt at blackmailing Griffin was probably legally suspect, too. So while Sandy probably did something illegal in covering up Griffin's attack on Matt, I can't see how the authorities could find out the specifics, as all three men have good reason to keep mum. Although, if I were Matt, I'd cash Sandy's check and then squeal anyway. Plus: Matt knows that Sandy has those documents that prove Griffin's guilt. The fact that Sandy hasn't turned them over to the authorities makes him guilty of something, doesn't it?

Or maybe nothing will come of the charge against Sandy, because he really hasn't done anything illegal. It could just be an elaborate setup for a dramatic Sandy/Kirsten breakup and reunion.
