Performance Differences

I'm debating purchasing a Motion LE1600 Tablet PC. What should I expect in terms of performance difference between the Centrino LV 759 (1.5Ghz) model, and the Celeron ULV 373 (1.0Ghz) model?

Motion's model information is here. If it helps for comparison, I have two laptops currently: an IBM T42 with an Intel Pentium M (1.7Ghz), and a Gateway 200X with an Intel Pentium M (1.4Ghz).

Additionally, if anyone has any experience with Motion's tablets, good or bad, I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

Best answer: Definitely the Pentium processor. Celerons just aren't up to snuff, it's worth every extra penny.

Best answer: I concur. The Pentium M is a good processor. The mobile Celerons are crippled by comparison; they have usually half the cache of corresponding Pentium M processors. (Specifically, with the two processors you've mentioned, the Pentium M has 2MB of L2 cache, while the Celeron has 512 KB. ) Most critically for a tablet, they lack the battery-saving SpeedStep technology found in Pentium M processors, so your battery life will suffer.

Keeping the capacitive screen running on a tablet sucks up battery power, and keeping the XP Tablet Edition background processes running uses processor time (and more battery power). I know it's $300 extra, but I'm pretty sure you'll be glad you got the beefier, more power-efficient processor in this case.

Response by poster: Cool. That's what I was planning and wanted to make sure I wasn't throwing money out the window!

Motion tablets are very nice. I don't own one, but have played with them often. And well. They're sweet little machines with good build quality (not creaky and chintzy and stuff). And since everything's already in there, they're pretty sweet.

Response by poster: Just a follow up: I purchased the LE1600 the other day, and got the Centrino model. The damn things take forever to get, so I'll be waiting for another week and a half, but hopefully it should be worth it. Thanks for all the advice!
