What practices increase your personal feeling of power?

Deep bass in music can increase a person's feeling of power - what are other momentary actions (not like diet, exercise, learning a long- term practice like medicine) that work this way or have promise to, or work for you?

Watching the sun rise makes me feel an energy and hope in the new day. Also when driving in the country, coming out of hills and seeing a valley open up before me lifts my mood and gives me a sense of possibilities.

Certain songs, heights with a good view, moving fast, looking great, convincing someone to do something for me that they weren't originally inclined to.

Doing things coded as "manly" like splitting wood by hand, DIY projects, towing a trailer, moving heavy furniture...some of those are physical but something like rewiring an outlet is more just mental fortitude.

Wearing clothes that you associate with authority—for me, a trench coat or blazer, and shoes that clack when walking on concrete.

My surface answer is clothing for sure. The right outfit or accessory can make me feel like a goddess. But that's not really my story inside, my story stems from being a powerless kid.

The real deep practice that makes me feel more powerful than anything is learning to take accountability for my choices and decisions. Even the terrible ones, they are all mine. The narrative that I am a helpless cog in the human machine just doesn't work for me. My power stems from taking my place in my life and truly living it.

I'm so thankful to be an adult human who usually has the opportunity to make my own moves and own them. Sometimes I mess up and have to pivot but I take great pleasure in using my power to make the best choices I can and then obviously I also enjoy giving myself a pat on the back once in a while for being a grownup.

I was once caught in a rainstorm, while on a field trip by the seashore. Fortunately my work had provided a full set of Musto BR2 waterproof outerwear, and rubber boots. So even in the lashing Atlantic wind and rain, I was kept bone dry, comfortable and warm in my own clothes. It honestly felt like being Superman.

Taking part in a group effort skillfully done
- Singing in harmony
- Felling a tree with a two-person crosscut saw
- Capturing a stray dog by enclosing it within a human circle
- Eating a delicious potluck

Yeah wearing loud shoes is a surprisingly big one for me. Turns out I love when my enemies can hear me coming? I don't know, it honestly came as such a surprise how much I liked it. I didn't buy the loud shoes on purpose.
