The trouble with Tribble pom-poms.

What should I make with these pom-poms?

I lost control and bought more than a dozen of these pompoms in grey, black, white, red, yellow, and brown. They are basically Tribbles, about 3" across. Here is a picture of most of them. What should I make with them? They can hang on bags obviously, but what size and shape of bag, and what colors would match? What else can I do with them? Thank you! <3

I'm not sure if you're looking to make something with these to keep or if you're okay with giving them away, but my first thought was that they'd be eye-catching gift toppers. They'd also be fun as part of a wreath or garland. (I realized the examples I'm sharing are all yarn, but I think yours would work in these as well!)

Response by poster: To clarify: I am open to sewing, knitting, crocheting, tatting, and pretty much any other fine-motor skill handicraft.

Best answer: Oh man, I saw these a couple weeks back at Joann’s and almost got some. I see now that my out of character self control was merely stolen from you, somehow.

Anyway, you could make amigirumi dolls of the Enterprise crew and give each one their own tribble, with a little ribbon collar and leash. At least, that’s what I wanted to do.

Other ideas:

Felt bags done in colorblocks for the unnatural colored ones. For example, yellow pompom with a primarily green bucket bag with a yellow exterior flap pocket and yellow base. Or a black pompom with a tote with one side magenta, the other side indigo, with a black gusset and handles.

Stab the middle with string and thread on some jingle bells dangling from the bottom. Make a loop at the top and whack a great big metallic ribbon bow at the base of the loop, boom Christmas ornaments.

Crochet or knit a scarf with pointed ends and sew the pompoms to the points. I’d do grey pompoms with a cool purple scarf, but that’s just me. You could go nuts and do like a combination of yarn tassels and pompoms, too.

Definitely make at least one pompom-topped winter hat. You could also do an ear flap hat and attach them to cords on the ear flaps. Maybe brown pompoms and a cream and brown unbleached fiber hat? Or a bright striped hat with a white or black pompom topper.

Googly eyes are clearly involved in the answer.

Best answer: How big are they? There are plenty of ideas for small ones, but tribble-sized ones may be harder to use,

I've seen very pretty cushions with smallish (about 3 inch) pompoms on them, either covering the whole thing or at the corners. Ive also seen "pebble" rugs made from a mass of pompoms sewn together but they did look very much like a trip hazard. Maybe a sort of open mesh crochet throw with them sewn on at intervals?

Best answer: these are very popular on the tops of hats right now in the knitting world (also crochet i assume). 3" is just about the right size as well.

(i also like the tribble on a leash idea above.)

Anything I would suggest for these adorable little guys involves purchasing (or making, since you mentioned sewing) a yellow Star Fleet command shirt with rank insignia pips...
