Looking for info about a rug

I inherited an area rug made by Stroheim and Romann, according to the tag on the back. The company was bought out and split up, and neither of the companies that own the bits of it have any records of the rug business. I am trying to understand what it might be worth. I believe it is wool but I'm not sure. Any tips on how to figure out the material/value/find an appraiser?

Best answer: I would start with estate sale companies or "fine arts" auction companies near you. IME their staff often have a surprising breadth of knowledge about things like this, and if they either don't know or think you might have something really exceptional they have their own specialists they can contact.
