Recommend some online + local multiplayer switch or PS4 games

Are there any games (other than Mario Kart) for the Switch or PS4 that support simultaneous local and online multiplayer?
My wife and I have been playing Mario Kart with my SIL and her spouse online recently. This is great because Mario Kart lets two players play per switch, even while playing online so all four of us can play together at once.
There are tons of other great online multiplayer games but we haven't had luck finding any that support simultaneous local and online play. This has also been kind of hard to search for since most of the results tend to ignore the "simultaneous" part.
We also have been playing the Jackbox games with a webcam setup so anything that could work like that would also be great.

Some other recommended coop games (but I haven't played remotely) : Overcooked, Sea of Thieves, Minecraft, Animal Crossing, the Diablo series, Fall Guys. Two people in different homes could play Divinity Original Sin 2 but probably not 4. Have fun!

Best answer: I played Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (The Handsome Collection; I think the Legendary Collection includes one more game - the original - that could also work) in online co-op with three other friends across three households total. I was on my own Switch, one friend was on hers, and the other two were locally splitting the controllers/screen on their shared Switch. One of the locally sharing players was the only one of the four of us who had much experience with that kind of playing, and though I'll never be the best at first-person action role-playing, the shootin' & lootin' got easier (you can turn on certain settings to help). We all got better throughout the missions and even when we died a lot, it was fun. You each choose a character with different special powers and can choose specific skill trees and weapons, but you can also just blast your way through as a team even if you don't really know how to optimize anything; I barely even followed the story that much.
Co-Optimus might help you - you can set filters for platform (including PC; Steam can sometimes support such a configuration, especially with Remote Play, but it doesn't always work smoothly), number of players, and "combo co-op" for online + couch play as well as several other criteria. For example, Overcooked! 2 seems doable, though I personally haven't tried it on Switch.
Alternatively, you could try Tabletopia or Board Game Arena for a brower-based experience, but this may require two computers?

Co-Optimus might help you - you can set filters for platform (including PC; Steam can sometimes support such a configuration, especially with Remote Play, but it doesn't always work smoothly), number of players, and "combo co-op" for online + couch play as well as several other criteria. Get a Minecraft Realm and start playing/building. It is such a good multiplayer experience. I only just started playing back in 2020 (guess why?) and it's been great. I've had issues connecting between all devices (especially Switch) but no problems at all joining a Realm. We have players on PC, xbox, switch, ipad, iphone, kindle fire.
I have been playing a single world for over two years and still die every time I go to the nether. Swarmed by magma cubes or blasted into lava by Ghasts. Two years and not a single blaze rod! Sometimes I think I'll never see the Ender Dragon in this world.
My farm/village/base is pretty awesome though.

Best answer: I can't recommend any personally right now but co-Optimus is your friend here, you can search for games that allow both couch co-op and online, but what you want is called 'combo co-op' in their scheme, and you have to fiddle with the filters a bit to get it as an option, using 'add a filter'. - What the Dub?! -- Watch short clips from campy old movies, where a line of dialog has been muted. Write your own replacement for the missing line. Vote on whose line is funniest. (Sort of like Quiplash, only the prompts are videos.) The game reads your lines using text-to-speech, which can be hysterical in itself.
- Use Your Words -- A mix of variations on the general theme of "here's a writing prompt, make a joke". Includes bits that work like What the Dub, bits that are like Quiplash and some "caption the funny photo" parts.
- Papa's Quiz (Switch, Playstation) -- A trivia quiz game that emphasizes speed. Goofy presentation that may or may not be your jam.
- Wordabeasts -- Here are two random words; come up with a third word that ties them together and lets other players find them in a cloud of decoy words. (Unlike all the other games in my list, this is PC only, but it's free on Steam and has very modest system requirements.)
- Awkward -- Guess how other players will respond to various social dilemmas.

We do this too, where two of us couch co op and the other is long distance. We also play Jackbox games online.
Nthing Overcooked and overcooked 2, but be warned that it can be frustrating to play. The only time we got ornery at each other was playing this both times.
Diablo 3 is perfect for this and fun to play. It takes a bit to get fun but you can scale difficulty.
Borderlands the Handsome Collection can do this which is actually two games. If you like those, so can the newer one Borderlands 3. But the split screen is tiny on the new one, you need good eyes.
I believe you can do this with Magika2 which is a pretty fun and funny game, especially if you like trolling your friends with friendly fire.
I recommend Use Your Words and What the Dub also-- they are a good addition to the Jackbox style games.
I actually don't recommend Minecraft for this necessarily because when we play it together is mostly three people chatting/singing/babbling while each of us do their own thing in game, not really group goal orientated. If you like that then it works, but not everyone is creative and knows what to build That said, the world we created together is pretty great and it does work if someone knows the game already and guides the others towards things like mining and building nether portals etc.
Also maybe for the future, if everyone has a computer then your choice expands a lot, even if it's not necessarily a gaming comp. MMOs are perfect for this, even older ones, though they have a steep learning curve for anyone not familiar with the mechanics. There are lots of free to play ones. We just started DDO online and while it's definitely confusing at first it's a really fun game to play together. Lotro is free also, and it's a lot easier as long as you don't think about end game stuff.
And yes, co-optimus is a good site I frequent often to figure out how co operative a game is.

Rocket League supports what you’re looking for, is tons of fun, and is anywhere from super cheap to free, depending on your platform. You can play against all kinds of people or stick to private games.
