Smallest Webhosting Requirements Ever.

Where can an honest man find a free place to park his domain for a while?

Due to dire financial constraints, I can no longer afford web hosting. However, I don't want to lose my domain, and want to keep it pointing somewhere for free, and host about 20kb of data to put together a page explaining to people what's going on. My site doesn't get huge amounts of traffic.

Where's the best place to do this? Googling for free webhosting, as you might expect, doesn't provide me with much useful information. Who offers this service, and who can be trusted not to dissapear / fill my site with horrendous pop-up ads for internet optimizers?

You'll still need to pay the domain name. I think UKreg will do what you want, if you can put up with a generic "coming soon" page. I use it. It's in the UK, but I'm in Australia too!

What the hell. Email me, and we'll sort something out. My good deed for the day.

If you've got cable/adsl/whatever, you could always host it yourself. Most ISPs say "no servers", but don't care unless you're making a nuisance of yourself.

Microsoft is essentially giving away domains at the moment.

Best answer: Most ISPs also give you a few mb free to host personal web pages. And there's Angelfire and the other free places.

My current financial situation (not to mention location) mean I'm stuck on dial-up, at least for the next month or so.

Most ISPs also give you a few mb free to host personal web pages.

This is a good point - I'll check on this.

Response by poster: Yes, my ISP does offer some personal webspace, and my domain registrar offers free URL redirects, so I'm set. Thanks for your help, and thanks to the people who offered to host for me!

I second Nearly Free Speech. You only pay for what you need. It's a dollar a gig. If you send them one dollar with paypal, that should cover your bandwidth needs for years.
