So my boyfriend wants to trim his pubes...

And given that razor-sharp face stubble is, well, razor sharp, should I be concerned about razor-sharp pube stubble? If it's just trimmed instead of shaved is it not razor sharp?

Beards aren't sharp. Your hair isn't sharp after a haircut. So, no, trimmed hair isn't sharp.

Shaving is a whole nother story, though.

Incidentally, beard trimmers don't have to be used exclusively for beards. They're basically just small electric clippers, with length adapters. If you happen to have one around, you can use it anywhere you feel you have hair that needs to be shortened.

You shouldn't be concerned.

It will be sharp for the first day. Use conditioner.

Some people have beard hair that's strong and coarse enough that shaving it can sharpen individual hairs, contrary to what Gamblor said. I have a friend who will get hair "splinters" in his fingers if he scratches his chin after shaving. Incredibly pointy hairs that actually penetrate the skin. I doubt pubic hair would be as much of a hazard, but... caution.

Magic Shaving Powder is a depilatory that isn't irritating and doesn't leave sharpened hair. It works very well for this application.

A warning, though: it smells vile when used (though none of the stench seems to stick to the skin after washing it off).

No, I was talking about trimming beards, like Santa Claus and ZZ top. I specifically said shaving is different.

And this is semantics, but by trimming, I mean cutting a little bit off the ends of the hair and leaving the majority of it intact. Shaving would be cutting the hair at the surface of the skin. The longer the hair, the more bendy it will be. Shave it close to the root, and it will be rigid and potentially scratchy.

My hair, beard, and pubes are soft and luxurious, though, so ymmv.

Trimmed/clipped hairs (cut with an electric hair clipper device) can be pointy, too, especially if they're rather short. Prepare for a little bit of itch and a little bit of scratch.
