How to get archive footage from ABC?

How do I obtain archive footage from "Wide World of Sports"?

My dad was an All-American in gymnastics when he was in college. His team was on ABC's "Wide World of Sports" somewhere between 1970 and 1972. I would love to get a tape of that show to give to him as a gift, but I have no idea how to even start looking. I wrote to ABC, but they responded with the boilerplate "We do not sell or provide tapes of any sports shows." Can anyone help?

Sounds simple, but have you contacted the college? Seems like they might know the exact date or someone have a copy in their archives. I've also been to the Museum of Broadcasting in Chicago which had tapes of many, many shows. Not sure if they had WWS though, or if they loan them out or let you copy anything.
