Is there any good site that allows you to review public schools in a given neighborhood, namely Brooklyn?

Standard & Poor's School Matters

Map of NYC schools broken down by region. Select a region and the link will take you to a list of districts in that region. Select a district and you will be taken to a list of schools in that district. Select a school [pdf] and you are taken to the Annual School Report which states under the heading "School Accountability Status" what standing the school is in.

There are six possible "grades" for a NYC public school. NYCBOE must indicate if the school is in "good standing" or "in need of improvement". The other 4 categories include "schools being in need of improvement" (2 different levels), "schools under review", and schools in "Restructuring".

This press release from NYSED in 2004 explains what the above "grades" are.

www.insideschools.org.
From the home page, search by level (pre-K, elementary, middle, high, District 75). You will be taken to a page where you can search by borough.

Inside Schools, as mentioned above is the gold standard, in my experience.
