Can I eat this: Lupini poison soup edition

Oops. I added dried lupini beans to soup instead of other beans. Is it possible to boil the soup to the point of edibility or should I toss the whole thing and start over?

Usually you have to soak and wash lupini beans several times before eating because they can be toxic otherwise. I know this won’t be the best soup ever Since the beans even cooked are firmer than other beans, but will it be poison soup?
Is the water lupini is boiled in toxic? Is the poison washed away by the water or is it like some chemical change from boiling?

In the soup already are the last of my homegrown cherry tomatoes, so while it’s inexpensive to replace, I’d be sad and would try to save it. Unless it’s gonna kill me and my family/make us sick.

If you’re going to ask why I put any dried beans straight into soup without boiling first it’s because I’m hella lazy and would rather just simmer something for ever than boil two whole separate pots.

Best answer: Soaking draws the bitter alkaloids out of the beans into the water. It doesn't neutralize them, they're just in the liquid instead of the beans. So all you would be doing is drawing them into the soup.

Sorry, no, toss.

I think they're also likely to be unpleasantly bitter without the change of water, in case you needed an extra reason not to be tempted. Sorry.

I made this mistake once. It was inedible which was probably good for our health. Sorry about the tomatoes. :(

Could you fish out the tomatoes or are they already pulp?

Response by poster: Tossed the whole thing, had already chopped the tomatoes. Oh well, lesson learned! Thanks for the help so I didn’t learn the lesson the hardest way.
