What are some things that make you laugh every time you think of them?
January 7, 2021 10:43 AM   Subscribe

I'm looking for things that for one reason or another surge to your memory occasionally and every time you think of them, you laugh -- out loud, or at least in your mind. It could be a joke or a comic or an incident.

Two examples for me are: Four Seasons Total Landscaping and the restoration of the Christ picture in Spain.

I need some more laughs for my armor.

I love the Loony Tunes cartoon where Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd are participants in a production of The Barber of Seville. The cartoon is called "The Rabbit of Seville". In particular, I love these lines that Bugs sings to Elmer (at this point, Bugs is dressed as a woman): "What would you want with a wabbit? Can't you see that I'm much sweeter? I'm your little señoriter. You are my type of guy, let me straighten your tie, and I shall dance for you." I crack up at the rhyming of "sweeter" with "señoriter".

Let's go to the hop. I first saw this while idly watching television about thirty years ago and I have never tired of it. I watched it twice just now. It's probably the purest example of Things Frowner Finds Funny.

The Sneak ("he's the Strongbad's Leporello") is also undyingly funny.

Also "Macrobiome".

I know that it is hotly debated whether Gritty is funny or cringe, but I don't care, this Gritty never fails to cheer me up.

Maybe it's because I'm a recovering/recovered fundie, but it's so utterly innocent yet to some people will be instantly mega-blasphemous. Everything about it: the cloud of feathers, the soot and broken labware, the worried “mom's gonna be so pissed!” expression on the kid: these lead to questions about about what size is that room, and who is God's mom anyway? This tweet from years ago. My husband and I crack each other up regularly by saying geebumf instead of goodbye in serious situations.

And, I once heard David Sedaris on a talk show saying he loves to talk to people who come to book signings, and always spends ages chatting to them, to the point that once he talked to someone who came to have her book signed for so long that the lady said "well, I'm gonna let you go..." I don't know why but that makes me laugh every time I remember it.

About 25 years ago, someone told me this joke:

What's the difference between roast beef and pea soup?

Anyone can roast beef.

I spent the next 10 years unable to stop myself from cracking up, turning bright red, and crying anytime someone asked me to tell my favorite joke. My friends would prompt me to tell it any time we would meet someone new.

It's worn off over the years, but I still love the few seconds that it takes for someone to put the pieces together when they hear it the first time (only really works spoken outloud).

So in the last couple of seasons of Game of Thrones, Jon Snow was wont to declare "You're my Queen!" to Daenerys. This often came out as, "You're muhqueen", which got quoted so much on various subreddits that it eventually became, "You're McQueen", as in Lightning McQueen from Pixar's Cars.

Lightning McQueen's catchphrase? Kachow. And thus, "Kachow, m'lady" was born, and I can't help cracking up whenever I recall this glorious saying.

*Warning: refers to the outgoing president*

David Tennant was on a UK comedy/talk show once, reacting to some kind of recent Trump UK appearance; he reminded the crowd about something Trump said once about how people in Scotland "love me up there." And then, in the biggest, broadest, angriest lapse back into his native burr I've ever heard, David announced "on behalf of the Scottish nation - we foockin' don't!!!!"

This makes me giggle every single time I've played it ever since. For a while I was trying to figure out how to have that as my ring tone.

Many of Ze Frank's videos also fit the bill; my favourites are probably True Facts about the Owl and Sad Cat Diary but nearly everything he does (including the commercial series Dear Kitten) is hilarious.
