Question: Chicago-style pizza in New York

Chicago style pizza in New York?

One of my friends moved from Chicago to NYC last year. He's currently having some homesickness-related issues, so we thought it'd be fun to treat him to a Chicago-style pizzeria somewhere in NYC or environs.

Now, I know about Naples-style pizza in New York, French-style, even Indian-style pizza, but of nothing Chicagoy therebouts.

Any good deep dish places in NY?

I don't know much about actual locations in NY, but you can have REAL Chicago pizza shipped to him in NY. There are, of course, arguments about which Chicago deep dish pizza is the best, but this is my personal favorite. Lou-to-Go.

They're totally legit - I have sent them around the country to my friends and family.

There's Pizzeria Uno.

You can also order from Giordano's. I gorged myself on it the last time I was in Chicago.

Pizzeria Uno is Chicago-style, but didn't really compare with Giordano's, in my opinion. I'm sure Chicagoans will chyme in with opinions of their own.

I'm with MeetMegan -- as a lifelong Chicagoan Lou Malnati's is my favorite too. My folks used to have it shipped to me during finals when I was away at college in VA. It gets there quickly and cooks perfectly (and you have some dry ice to play with if that's your thing -- my dorm mates always had fun with that).

The Malnati's is pretty damn expensive, is it really worth it?

Pizzeria Uno has lost something with the various chain incarnations. I went to one in Florida and it seriously sucked - and I've been to the true Uno and Due. I recommend the shipping option. Giordano's is quite good, as well, but I just think the Lou Malnati's crust is more buttery and tasty, whereas I leave much of the Giordano's crust on my plate. Personal opinion, of course.

Lou Malnati's is ABSOLUTELY worth it. Completely. If you'd rather, I can go down to the actual pizzeria and ship one to you - their frozen versions take home pizzas are about $12 - you're really paying for the fully terrific shipping that gets it door-to-door fresh and ready to eat.

Their pizza crusts are buttery and thick, with plenty of cheese, tomatoes, and high-quality, super-fresh toppings. Whenever Food Network features Chicago-style pizza, Lou Malnati's is prominently profiled.

Yup, definitely worth it. Lou Malnatis is the only pizza where the crust really is the best part.

I would have recommended Giordano's also, but I think huskerdont was looking for a restaurant located in NY. The thin crust at Giordano's would definitely be my last meal request if I were a death row inmate.

Please don't take him to Uno's. Or as it's called these days, "Uno Chicago Grill" (blech!)

Lou Malnati's really is the best. I like Edwardo's, too!
