Seattle vet recommendation for cats?

I recently moved to Ballard and need to find a vet for my three cats. While a nearby vet is obviously easiest, I'm willing to drive for the right practice. Do you have one that you love?

One of my cats is elderly, and I expect that I'll need to start having end-of-life discussions about her sooner than later, so it's very important to me that the vet is one I'm comfortable having discussions with about tradeoffs in care, quality of life, and expense.

This question was last asked in 2005, and I figure things may have changed since then.

It will feel impossibly far away to you because of the lack of bridge, but we have been extraordinarily happy with the Lien Animal Clinic down here in West Seattle. They have done great work on our cats’ teeth and I would trust any of their vets.

Dr Mortimer at Green Lake Animal Hospital is excellent. Helped a friend keep her cat alive to the ripe old age of 23.

Woodhaven, in Edmonds. Worth the drive. One of my cats died and the care she (and we) got from Woodhaven was very compassionate. We've been going to them for years.

Sorry to be blunt about this, but if your cat does die at home in the middle of the night, I can recommend Animal Medical Center in Shoreline for 24-hour services. I called ahead so they knew I was coming, and they handled everything very gently.

(I am answering this even though you failed to post the cat tax. Let's see some photos!)

When we lived in Ballard we loved Sunset Hill Vet.

When we lived in Bitter Lake, we took our cat to Aurora Veterinary Hospital at Aurora and 89th. We always had a good experience, especially with end of life care.

I’ve been pleased with both The Cat Clinic of Seattle and Elliot Bay Animal Hospital for my kitties.

Cats Exclusive in Shoreline has given my cats excellent care since 2008. They're right on Aurora Avenue. It's a bit of a drive from Ballard, but I feel that my cats - the first thee I had, and the five I have now - have always been in excellent hands there.

Mod note: Please be advised that MetaFilter recognizes no pet tax, however well-intentioned; and no poster should feel pressured into publishing pics of their delightful critters, however gorgeous.

Response by poster: Ack! I've been a member for over a decade, and can't believe that I forgot the cat tax on my first-ever feline question.

Here's my old sweetheart in her favorite spot -- her bed on my desk. However, she would like to know who demanded that I wake her up for a photo shoot.

I haven't lived in Seattle for four years, but when I was there I LOVED Dr. B at the Caring Pet Clinic on 45th St. I used to shlep over there from Ballard myself and thought she was the best vet I've ever had. One thing to note: that office is all walk-ins (at least it was at the time), which can be good or bad depending on your perspective.
