The next best thing to going there: ISO virtual experiences for 2021
November 23, 2020 6:16 PM   Subscribe

A few weeks ago, I attended a week-long writer's conference that took place entirely on Zoom. It was a much better experience than I thought and since my travel wings have been clipped, I'd like to find more things like that for 2021. Please share your recommendations for upcoming virtual conferences, courses, workshops, and other events.

In general, I lean more towards the arts, humanities, and social sciences than hard sciences and tech, but I'm in search of novelty as much as anything else. Please share whatever good stuff you have, any length and budget (for dreaming purposes at least). Thanks!

Tara Brach has virtual meditation retreats -- I ended up catching one of them in podcast form, but it looks like there will be more live ones coming up. Since the most recent one exists as part of the free podcast you could also preview it first to see if it seems worthwhile: https://www.tarabrach.com/calendars/category/residential-retreats/

You can take various first aid courses virtually through the American Red Cross. Adult, Child and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED Online is only $35. I think they also offer pet first aid, in case that is relevant for you.

The International Mountain Medicine Center at the University of New Mexico offers an online course in wilderness first aid, for $250.

Response by poster: Thanks to everyone who has answered so far, these are great!

I thought I might add to the total on this by linking to Surrey International Writers Conference, which was the event I attended. They haven't posted the dates of the 2021 event yet but it is usually in the third week of October. If I can't be there in person, I will definitely consider attending the "at home" version. They did an extremely good job.

The Kripalu Centre also has a number of yoga and meditation programs online from December 2020 on.

Julia Cameron of The Artist's Way fame offers video courses as well as the Gathering of Creatives at the beginning of December.

Please keep 'em coming!

If you're open to things with a spiritual bent, Pendle Hill (a Quaker retreat center) has moved many of their retreat offerings to an online format.
