Can The Hive Mind hope us find a military or commercial semi truck that fits our budget?

Our growing Burning Man village is looking for a semi; pretty much anywhere in the lower 48.

These pics are an example of what we're looking for.

Some details and maybe a tall order: We have up to $5,500 to spend. The military one is preferred. The other is an example of a cab over engine. The cab over engine can be with or without a sleeper.

400,000 miles or less would be great. Running and tires with at least 10k miles left on them. Eventually we want to get a 28’ dry van trailer and a 28’ flatbed trailer.

If the truck is out of the 200 mile area around Reno, it would be helpful to know someone in the area to assist.

It could be conventional or military.

The truck will be a private registration, not for hire, non commercial.

Thanks!

If your driver(s) do not have CDL licenses, be sure to check the rules in your state to make sure you can drive it with your regular licenses. Sometimes there are restrictions by vehicle type, usage, or gross weight, etc.

Response by poster: Excellent point. Our village does have members with CDL's who are willing to drive.

I don't know if they owned their own cab but the French Quarter was planning on downsizing and might be willing to cut fellow burners a deal.

You may be better off waiting and scrounging up a little extra money. I'd say there's at least a 50% chance the event will be cancelled next year, probably higher.

You can troll https://www.govdeals.com/ for surplus equipment, but read the descriptions very carefully, many are "as-is" or "has issue / missing X" before it can move.

Hey there, it's not a semi, but I have a box truck outfitted for the playa: fully insulated, solar panels to run the water pump which feeds the showerhead that's attached to the outside and the commercial 3 compartment sink, propane powered instant water heater, 21 cubic foot propane powered refrigerator (uses less than a tank to power for over two weeks) and a propane powered home style four burner stove/oven. I use it to store the camp the rest of the year so it also contains and would be included: a couple of small chest freezers, aluminet and piping to frame a 30x40 (if I remember right) shade area, small honda generator, two propane powered 48" camp stoves with grill boxes, flat tops and pizza oven attachments, various tables and chairs and shelves and and a ton of other camp paraphenalia.

I put a new engine and transmission in the truck when i got it, and it's pretty easy to drive (I did the driving to and from playa). I last used it in 2017 and it's been parked where I store it just outside Reno since.

I'm looking to sell because I've decided that if i go back to the burn I don't want to run a camp anymore.

Here's a pic.
PM me if you'd like more info.

Also check out civilian government auctions at auto auctions.gsa.gov
Your state may also have a surplus property sales site.
