Picked up an X-56 in anticipation of Squadrons coming out. It arrived well in advance of the game. Recommend me some games to use it with to fill the gap!

Best answer: I think the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator is the main reason HOTASes are hard to get right now.

Best answer: Elite Dangerous is the reason I own mine.

Best answer: DCS World is the current 800 pound gorilla of contemporary air combat simulators, and IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of [x] (Stalingrad, Moscow, etc) is the WW2 equivalent. Both have more a learning cliff than a learning curve, but if you're interested in aviation and willing to put in some work, both are very rewarding. Star Wars' dogfights were heavily influenced by the Hollywood portrayal of aviation in World War 2, so, you may find some interest overlap there too!

Best answer: Il2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Blitz is sort of interesting offshoot of the IL-2 Battle of X series. It is based on early WW2 in the English Channel area.

Cliffs of Dover came out in 2011 and was a big disappointment, many many bugs and unfinished features, etc. So it became kind of abandonware that was taken up by a group of enthusiasts, bugs fixed in several unofficial patches etc. Now recently this enthusiast team has made and official partnership with 1C Studios, which owns the rights to the game.

So they released Cliffs of Dover Blitz (ver 4.5) and now the Desert Wings add-on (5.0), which includes a whole new N North Africa map plus zillions of bug fixes etc.

It has lots of offline missions & campaigns to fly, as well as an active online/multiplayer community based here.

Best answer: DCS gives you two planes for free, so you can try it out with no risk.
