How can I force Google Blogsearch to index my archived blog entries?
March 19, 2006 2:30 PM

I'd like to be able to search my (MovableType) blog via Google Blogsearch, but they only update via RSS.

Most of my entries are many years old. I want to be able to search those entries. Is there any way to force Google to pick those up? (Adding a sitemap doesn't seem to have helped.)

Google BlogSearch gets most of its data from Feedmesh, a distributed ping-sharing network currently supported by Yahoo, PubSub, and others -- but not Technorati.

Until Google BlogSearch integrates their main search data the results will remain pretty limited.

Try creating a fresh posts that has links to all your older posts.

That may help.

dmd, do you have your blog set to send update notifications? Go to Main Menu > Scents> New Entry Default Settings and under "Publicity/Remote Interfaces" make sure the boxes are all checked. Save, and then publish a post, and you should be set.

If that is already set up and still isn't working, it may be because a lot of the pinging services have been having trouble with reliability at times.

Yeah, I do. I have no problem with blogsearch (or any of the other indexers) picking up new entries. It's the old (as in, circa 1999-2004) entries that I want indexed, though, and no amount of repinging those seems to help.
