How can I automatically scale an email printed to HP printer?

So someone in my family has set up my grandfather to print wirelessly from his iPhone to his new inkjet printer. (ARGH!) He only prints emails to this printer, and only from the native mail iPhone app. His problem is that the type size once printed is too large. I don’t believe there is a way to scale when printing from the phone. Is there way I can set his printer to scale down everything it receives? Do you have any other ideas to reduce the printed type size? Thanks!

Does he have the Larger Text function enabled? It’s found under General > Accessibility. If so, this could be the culprit. There is no way to scale on-the-fly, though, as far as I can see.
