Can anyone recommend a spa or massage therapy place in NYC? I want to get my girlfriend a gift certificate for her birthday. Thanks.

Do you think she'd be interested in flotation?

I've been and it's quite a relaxing experience. It's run by just one guy out of his own place, but he's been around for years.

Thanks, but I'm more interested in getting her a massage -- her back's been killing her lately and I think she'd like to have someone who actually knew what they were doing (i.e., not me) try to unkink the knots.

How about searching a community-based recommendation site?

Second Bliss. Got my wife a Mommy Massage and she loved it.

Yi Pak on 32nd and 6th is a high value-massage place -- massage-fancying women who don't care about frills really go for it ... you could probably get her a 5-pack for the cost of one fully-loaded Bliss treatment...

I received a gift certificate for a massage at Oasis Day Spa, the Park Avenue location, and found it truly knot-dissolving.

Have heard good things about Metamorphosis Day Spa up on the UES. Very reasonable prices too!!

Not NYC, but our local chiropractic college also teaches massage therapy, and a trip there costs several times less than a fancy spa. It's no frills, you don't get a pedicure or body wrap with it, but they do a bang-up job for cheap on bad backs. Then she could go a few more trips for the same money.
