Question: Stroke my Photoshop, the same way every time

Can I set defaults in Photoshop CS2? Specifically, I want to change the Layer Style "stroke" default.

Right now whenever I want to add a border using the stroke function, it defaults to 3pt, Red, Outside. I almost always use 1pt Black, Inside. How can I set that as the default?

I want to change the Layer Style "stroke" default.

No, unfortunately you can't. prostyle has the right idea.

More specifically, when you're in the Stroke dialogue, look over to the right: there's a button that's labeled "New Style..."

Set your stroke as desired and click that button. Photoshop will ask you to name the style. Call me crazy, but I'd name it "1pt Black, Inside."

After you do this, your style will be added to the Style Palette, which you can bring up via Window > Style. (By the way, in my humble opinion, the default styles in that palette are crap. I recommend deleting them and using the palette just for your own styles.)

In the future, when you want a stroke, just select the layer you want to stroke and then click your "1pt Black, Inside" style in the Style palette.

Another solution: record an Action in which you apply a 1pt Black, Inside stroke. Link the action to a keystroke. Then, each time you press the keystroke, it will apply your stroke.

That does the trick. Thanks for the tips. I will try the Action suggestion as well. Still, 3pt Red Outside is odd for a default stroke.
