Does she have to go to a doctor to get inhaler prescription?

22y.o. college student daughter has asthma (no problems last 5+ years) and let her inhaler prescription expire, which she last got from her pediatrician. Now's not the time to go new doctor shopping, but would be a good time to try and get that Rx filled. Any advice on what she could do to avoid having to call on or visit overwhelmed doctors right now?
Also - has she tried calling her pediatrician's office and asking for a refill? It may be that simple.

Response by poster: Yes, she's called pediatrician and is waiting to hear end of day Monday. Telemedicine looks great. Thanks!

I came in the say telemedicine. I know our plan has MDLive as an option.
I suspect most plans have a similar option and they didn't before they will soon.

I assumed telemedicine was a general term. If you havent called your insurance (health not prescription) you might do that as well and see if they have a designated service for remote dr visits.

Best answer: The usual procedure is that you just call the pharmacy where you last filled your prescription and ask them to refill it. The pharmacist will then request an updated prescription from your physician. Most physicians have a procedure in their office to quickly respond to pharmacist requests and it is likely to be faster than you trying to contact the physician directly.
Occasionally a physician will refuse a refill without an examination, but that is less common.

Is she at college right now? Does the college have a health center?
