Where to find illustrated body parts to mix to create infinite character position/attitudes ?

I'd like to find body parts (heads, hands, arms, clothes, objects) that I can assemble (in illustrator or flash) to create different situations/actions/gestures. Do you know a free or low cost website that provide this ?

The parts should be available in different configuration (angles, positions, etc...) so that I can create an almost infinite set of characters.

I understand what you want; I think it's a cool idea; I don't know of anything like this; but you should take a look at Poser.

Response by poster: >teleskiving, that is almost what I want but I d like to find a version with clothes (and ideally industrial worker clothes).

You could try 3d.sk (NSFW). It does require a subscription, but they have an incredibly diverse collection of reference photographs of human anatomy, clothed and unclothed.

You'd have to compile them into the poses you want yourself, so I'm not sure if it will suit you, but it might be worth a look.

I second the idea of Poser. I know one of the suppliers, Daz3D, makes something called DazStudio - which (last time I checked) is a free character animation application.
I've often used Poser to "pre-sketch" reference images - body positions, angles, etc - then I go back and draw over these in Photoshop or something...

Good luck!
