Will Hauppage WinTV PVR USB 2.0 MCE work with Win 2K?

Can WinTV PVR USB 2.0 MCE Edition be used with Win 2K? When I purchased it I did not realize I was getting the MCE Edition which apparently does not include the MPEG codecs and has an external IR sensor for use with Windows XP Media Center Edition. The non-MCE version is supposed to work with Win 2K. Should I return this or can I get it to work fully with Win2K ?

You could call the company in question and ask.

The hardware is probably the same. They might be able to just send you a driver disk or an upgrade package or something.

You might also be able to download the codecs &c yourself, but I'd probably return it before I did that.

Best answer: As mentioned on hauppauge's web site, the difference between the MCE edition and the non-mce editions, is just as you noted: including an IR tx/rx device and also an FM tuner -- this is the requirements imposed by MS for MCE tuner devices.

Although mentioned that it requires MCE2005, it *should* work on Win2k (and anything else that supports DirectX 9)-- I sucessfully ran a PCR-150MCE on W2k-- but Hauppauge will probably not give you much support (the MCE editions are intended to be sold to OEM's anyway, not end users)

You could probably get more info from this web-site:
www.shspvr.com and the forums there which have very knowledgeable users, and beta drivers...

Response by poster: Thanks for the website links. I have sent the question to Hauppage tech support yesterday. have not heard anything back yet.
