Who do you admire?

Who do you admire in your life, how do they inspire you, and how have they affected you?
This amazing thread about life-altering experiences got me thinking, and inspired me to ask a question of the hive mind:
Who in your life inspires you, why do you admire them, and how have they affected you?
Caveat 1 - we're talking about people in your life here
Caveat 2 - I think for a lot of people it might be one of their parents, or both (though equally for many it might be the exact opposite), hence I think it would be interesting to hear about non-parental inspirations in the main - but if your Dad really is your greatest inspiration, knock yourself out.
My reason for wanting to know? Curiosity.
