CycleFilter: Any advise on riding Way of the Roses this summer?

I'm planning to ride the Way of the Roses in the UK this summer to commemorate my 50th birthday (or, at least, I'm using that as an excuse). It occurs to me someone in this community may have done this, or something like it, so here I am.

I'm looking into outfitters for a custom 3-day itinerary. My riding buddy and I are both strong riders, so we feel like the 3-day version is fine. We could probably do 2, but 3 allows for more "hey, let's have a pint!" or "hey! let's take some pix here!" events.

I have a quote from one outfit already, and it seems reasonable -- on the order of 1,150 UK for both of us, including carbon road bike rental, 2 overnights, baggage shuttling, and transport back to the west.

Are there questions I should be asking that I haven't asked? What pitfalls do you forsee?

You'll probably be able to find a lot of good information for the route itself in the Crazy Guy on a Bike journals, and the Bicycle Touring & Bikepacking Facebook group. You may be able to find (or ask for) outfitter recommendations there, though both tilt strongly toward self-supported riders so you may also get some guff over it. (And for what it's worth, for 1,150GBP could probably buy you and your buddy most of the gear you'll need for future short tours.)

The forum of the CTC (= Cyclists’ Touring Club, which is a prominent British campaigning org) will have a lot of helpful info on this route.

Response by poster: Good links. However, I guess I should be clearer here: I'm 100% not interested in a bikepacking / self-supported trip. I hate camping. I hate riding encumbered.

Paying someone to arrange bag transport, overnight accommodations, and transport back west is fine by me.
