Apps appearing on my phone

Since getting a new phone, I have periodically had apps showing up without my installing them. Why?
The phone is an LG G6 (AT&T version) on Cricket Wireless network that I've purchased second hand. I've reset the phone to factory as well as changed my Google password, but it still happens every few weeks. I've also run virus scans which turned up nothing. The apps are mostly games and show up randomly. They are not appearing in my app store as installed, so I wonder if something going on through the carrier. The apps can be uninstalled. I don't have a lot of questionable other apps on my phone, mostly commonly used ones.
