Naming a New Kitty!

We adopted a new cat, and we are struggling with a name for him. He is a nine month old black and white kitty, with the softest fur and a little pink nose (pics here). His personality is super friendly, snuggly and sweet.

He has been through a couple names since he came home on Saturday. His shelter name was Mitch, then we called him Moose, and most recently Murphy. We don't need an "M" name though, that's just what we were thinking at first. We like simple, possibly quirky names, or possibly cutesy names. His name could be a people name, or maybe not!

We have another cat, for some reference to our naming style and to avoid sound-alikes. We adopted her in December, and her name came to us easily. She's Oona.

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Is he a tuxedo cat? (I can’t view the pics). Would “Tuck” fit him? Oreo?

In the bottom picture he looks kind of like he's smirking. What an adorable little troublemaker ("cat"). My first instinct was "Spark" although in my household that'd be "Spork" in six seconds flat.

I read the first part of the post, looked at the pictures, thought "he's Moose," then read you had already tried it. Maybe it's a better fit than you first thought? I understand if the double-o is too close to Oona, but if he's Moose he's Moose.

Following the “Oona” cue and the post by doornoise- maybe “Chap” short for Chaplin?

My friend has a cat who looks a lot like that, and his name is Rudy (or maybe Rudi).

Aw his facial marking looks like an upside down bone (a T bone?) but the name that first came to mind was Wishbone or Bones.

Seconding the Charlie (as in Chaplin) recommendation. Could also see him as a Rory or Tully. He feels like his name ends in "eeeee," the better for squealing.

and most recently Murphy
Lord, have Murphy on us all!

He looks my former cat, McKenzie.
Benjamin? Douglas? Tugger?

Seconding the Charlie (as in Chaplin)

Thirded! although for some reason he seems like a Chuck to me.

I’m not sure why, but he looks like a Taylor to me.
And... he is adorable! Congratulations on your new family member!

I clicked on the pic before reading below the cut and thought "oooh he marshmallow" then read about the M names. Marshal, then, shortened to Marshy or lengthened to Marshmallow depending on mood and squishiness levels.

Could be a twin of our girl, Tuxies rock! Same crazy look in his eyes too.

My theory is that you name a cat as best you can but eventually you’ll end up calling it something else, which may change over time. Our Tuxie has a very elegant name. But mostly she’s “Bunbuns.”

Therefore I suggest Oscar.

When I was a kid we had a cat named Picaroon, which has pirate-y rogue connotations, and this cat looks like a Picaroon to me!

How loud is his purr? If it reaches local airport decibels, how about naming him after The Hum, Hertz, or perhaps Diesel.
