Courses, books, flash cards, etc. that can help someone learn Hebrew?

I am trying to buy a gift for someone who is taking an introductory Hebrew class. Are their any materials for this Language that you recommend? It could be online courses, books, flash cards, audio tapes like Pimsleur, etc. Any recommendations?

I didn't know they were still in print, but Gesher is a classic series of easy Hebrew readings that are actually interesting. http://myhebrewbooks.com/product-category/hebrew-reading-books/gesher-books/

Are they taking Biblical/liturgical Hebrew or Modern Israeli Hebrew (Ivrit)?

My silly but serious recommendation is Bananagrams. Bananagrams is a super fun game that works for people with basically any level of skill, or you can just play around with the tiles to try to make as many words as you can. I haven't actually played with the Hebrew version but I think it might be more fun than the English version since you can play with roots in Hebrew to make new words.

Also, Duolingo has a fun course - I wouldn't recommend it for your sole learning but it is a gamified vocabulary and vocab-training course with a popular fan base. It's a free software, your friend might like it.

OK, both my suggestions are for Ivrit. Another good idea is a dictionary, a good dictionary is so helpful when learning a language and you use it more as you advance. There is a two-volume set by Alcalay that's pretty good for English/Hebrew or if they want a Hebrew/Hebrew one (more useful when you're closer to fluency) I think אבן שושן is a common one.
